In advance of the inaugural meeting of the DMVMoves Task Force on June 10, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) today unveiled a new website for the organizations’ joint initiative to create a unified vision and sustainable funding model for the region’s network of more than a dozen different transit systems. COG and WMATA officials announced the initiative during a historic joint meeting of their Boards of Directors in May.
The website, www.dmvmoves.org, features information on the regional Task Force overseeing the initiative, co-chaired by COG Board Chair and District of Columbia Councilmember Charles Allen and WMATA Board Chair Paul C. Smedberg, as well as the two advisory groups that will be supporting the task force. Board of Trade President and CEO Jack McDougle will be leading the Community Partners Advisory Group of business, labor, and community leaders, while Fairfax County Executive Bryan Hill will be leading the Government Partners Advisory Group composed of officials from area jurisdictions and transit service providers and agencies. DMVMoves is being supported by COG and WMATA staff, led by COG Executive Director Clark Mercer and WMATA General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke. The Task Force and Advisory Group meetings will be facilitated by two nationally recognized transportation leaders, Nuria Fernandez, a Former Administrator for the Federal Transit Administration, and Nick Donohue, Principal at Capitol Transportation Consulting. The DMVMoves website will also include livestreams for each Task Force meeting as well as various transit resources and studies informing the effort.
